Anonymous Guest asked:

youve said before youve had the concept of corru and the obesk in your mind for a long time but didnt think you had the ability to make them a reality, when would you say that had all started, 2012 or something
also what were the main inspirations for the obesk, they make me think somewhat of the precursors/architects from subnautica

hello guest!! the earliest obesk prototype that resembles what we have now was indeed formed around 2011-2012, in scribbles in my high school notebooks! there were earlier versions in drastically different forms that are now fossilized skeletal remains beneath 10,000 feet of soil and stone, like one where they were a species in a fantasy warhammer-esque setting.

for the obesk as they became now, there really aren't "main" inspirations that I can point to, because it was a slow building of ideas on top of one another - I remember the idea of having their technology be living was when I first learned about what lichens and superorganisms are, for example. then the question became - "ok, how would that work?" and it became symbiosis, sharing of thoughts, what could result from that, and perhaps the greatest question of all: how that could even happen in the first place...

this is maybe a little unhelpful since there aren't clear things I can point to, but it's da truth!

I also answered a question kind of like this one (but not precisely about the obesk) here, if you're interested in hearing more about inspirations!
